Sony Ignites the Console Market with Massive PS5 Sale Sony has just declared its maiden PS5 sale, unveiling an impressive price reduction of approximately 16% for their coveted gaming console across a number of international markets. Gamers in the UK, India, Ireland, and Germany are set to benefit from the considerable markdown.
In the UK, the beloved PS5 console has taken a dip, now retailing for £399.99 – a sharp fall from its usual £479.99 tag and even below its initial launch price of £449.99, prior to a global price hike outside the US last year.
Sony’s £75 off bonanza in the UK is an immediate effect and will run until the 10th of August. The gaming powerhouse is also trimming €75 off the PS5 price in Germany. Amazon Germany is further sweetening the deal, offering the PS5 for a steal at €459.99, down from its typical €549.99 price, valid until August 7th. Gamers in Ireland and Austria can also enjoy a €75 reduction, while Indian customers are in for a hefty ₹7,500 discount.

This price drop campaign comes hot on the heels of Sony’s announcement of having successfully sold 40 million PS5 consoles since its 2020 debut. The company has reported a considerable boost in PS5 shipments this year, tripling the number of consoles delivered from January to March at 6.3 million units, compared to 2 million units during the same timeframe last year.
Interestingly, the temporary PS5 price reduction precedes speculations of a potential announcement of a PS5 Slim model. Gaming insiders revealed last year that Sony might be gearing up for a September 2023 launch of a PS5 version with a detachable disc drive.
During the FTC v. Microsoft hearing recently, Microsoft referenced these rumours, predicting that the PS5 Slim could retail at $399.99. If these predictions are spot-on, the PS5 Slim would retain the same price point as the PS5 Digital Edition, with the added bonus of offering users the option to include a disc drive at a later date.
